Natural Cures for Bed Bug Infestation

Bed bugs are small, brown insects that are around a quarter of inch in length. Similar in appearance to ticks and cockroaches, bed bugs are often found in homes, apartments, hotels, and even methods of public transportation like buses. After World War II, bed bugs were basically unheard of in society thanks to the pesticide DDT. However, DDT was deemed unsafe and banned. This is one reason there are a reoccurance of bed bug infestations these days. Another reason is the increase in international travel. Bed bugs can easily stow away in suitcases and take up residence wherever the suitcase is unloaded.

Bed bugs feed on the blood of people and animals, and like to live very close to where they feed. They're most active at night, which is why they often are found in people's mattresses. If you go to bed without any bites on your skin and get up in the morning covered with red, itchy bumps, it could be bed bugs. Bed bugs are also apparent by the excrement they leave behind, which looks like dark spotting on mattresses or furniture.

Because many people today don't want to use harmful pesticides, they're turning to natural cures for bed bug infestation. One such cure is a concoction made from natural pyrethins and canola oil, then used in the same manner as a chemical pesticide. There are also various herbs that have been shown to help with controlling pests. These herbs and plants include: garlic, cayenne, mint, red and black pepper, lavender, and black walnut.

You can find natural cures for bed bug infestation at a variety of places. The Internet is a great place to look for these natural cures. There are lots of online retailers who sell organic pesticides for controlling garden and household pests. You may also want to check your local home supply store or even health food store.

Another option is to hire a professional exterminator to come in and take care of the problem for you. This is probably the most effective way, and many professionals these days offer organic and natural options for eradicating bed bugs.

A bed bug infestation doesn't have to ruin your furniture or your life. These pests can be effectively controlled and removed with safe products and methods that don't release harmful fumes into your environment or endanger your family or pets.
